The Taco Libre Truck Showdown is a fun and delicious annual event hosted by the Mobile Food Rodeo. For the third year in a row, over 40 of Seattle’s best food trucks gathered together and served up some of the tastiest and imaginative tacos the city has to offer. This year’s Taco Libre Truck Showdown was held in Fremont as an extension of their Sunday Market. Compared to last year’s Showdown, which was located in International District, I felt the space was much more accommodating for the large crowds and in general it was a more comfortable experience. Plus there was plenty of green space where you could post up right next to the lake.

The first truck we came across (which wasn’t on the ballot) was Wood Shop BBQ. You can normally find them dishing out Kansas City and Texas Style BBQ. For this event, they also offered a conservative menu of tacos filled with their yummy smoked meats.
Next up was Breads and Circuses food truck. I believe they describe themselves as a Gastropub, their normal menu changes regularly and consists of elevated pub fare infused with various ethnic flavors, most notably Indian.
With our bellies starting to get full and the crowds growing we decided to try one more taco truck and then go for dessert. Since this would be our last set of tacos, we went with last years ‘Best Taco’ winner, as we knew they wouldn’t disappoint. Buddha Bruddah typically serves a fusion of Asian and Hawaiian specialties including Thai Curry, Japanese Yakisoba, and Hawaiian Grilled Beef. For the Taco Libre Showdown, they used Asian flavors to create a small but fantastic menu of tacos.
We went with the Carne Asada & Carnitas tacos; they were both equally delicious. We also used the made from scratch chili bar to spice up our choices. The pickled onions were a nice touch and both tacos were generously filled to the brim with meat. I can see why they won last year!
After stuffing my face with as many tacos as I could, my sweet tooth was aching and I was ready to switch it up. Our first stop was the fresh fruit booth; I know not super sweet, but they had ripe mango with fresh lime and chile, which I just couldn’t pass up! This is seriously one of the best sweet, sour, spicy snacks that satisfies every craving.
We closed out our Sunday Fremont Market & Taco Libre Showdown fun with one last stop at the Street Donut Co. truck. They serve really tasty mini donuts, but in the spirit of the event we decided to go with their mini dessert tacos.
I really enjoyed this year’s Taco Libre Showdown! It amazes me at how many delectable food trucks that Seattle has to offer. Every year it seems like this event just gets better and better, so I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what next year brings
Cheers,
